Austin Healey – Strictly Come Dancing and a Six Pack!

Hip-swinging England Rugby ace Austin Healey tries his very, very, best… but gets booted off Strictly Come Dancing

He started the show as one of the favourites to win but rugby star Austin Healey yesterday became the latest casualty on Strictly Come Dancing.  Healey and partner Erin Boag were in the bottom two on Saturday night alongside Lisa Snowdon and Brendan Cole after receiving the lowest scores from judges and the fewest public votes. Both couples were praised in last night’s dance off, but the judges’ decision to boot off former England scrum-half Healey was unanimous.

Shaved what do you think?

England Rugby ace Austin Healey, with dance partner Erin Boag, became the 13th celebrity to be voted off Strictly Come Dancing.  His exit is a surprise because for much of the BBC1 series he had been a front-runner. The 35-year-old father of four has picked up a huge female fanbase with judge Arlene Phillips admitting that she had a soft spot for his ‘cute smile and flirty eyes’.  On Saturday, Healey and his partner danced the American Smooth and the salsa.

Nice try: Austin faced a dance-off with Lisa Snowdon and Brendan Cole, but lost Miss Phillips admitted she wanted to see him in the final, but complained: ‘We know you can circle your hips but the salsa hip action wasn’t there.

‘I had my magnifying glass out and I didn’t see it. When you’re dancing with Erin your performance is electric, it’s masterful and I love a man to be masterful, but sometimes when you’re left on your own there’s just that little bit of timidity.

The couple received 70 out of 80 from the judges for their two performances. ‘I’m saying this because I want to see you in the final. Austin, be fearless. You have it  all, just be fearless all the time.’ Fellow judge Craig Revel Horwood described him as ‘awkward’ at times and lacking pizzazz. After being eliminated from the show Healey said: ‘I’d like to say three thank yous, firstly to everyone at Strictly for giving me the chance to be in something so amazing.

And Boag added: ‘I would just like to say that I’ve had the time of my life and it’s all down to having such a great person to dance with, so thank you Austin.’

Moment of truth: The two couples wait to hear who makes it through to next week

His departure leaves the battle to win the title – and the lucrative job and endorsement opportunities that come with it – wide open.   Bookmakers are now tipping Holby City actor Tom Chambers, whose partner is Camilla Dallerup, and S Club 7 singer Rachel Stevens, who performs with Vincent Simone, to get to the final on December 20. The pressure is already starting to show on the remaining contestants.
